CEBU, Philippines -Lapu-Lapu City is slowly establishing itself as one of Cebu’s running haven as it stages the “Alphonsian Run” on July 10 starting and ending at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall grounds.
Featuring the 3K, 6K and 15K categories, proceeds of the event will be donated to the less fortunate children of Lapu-Lapu.
The race organizers led by Batch ’87 of St. Alphonsus Catholic School Alumni Association (SACSAA) said part of the funds that will be generated will be used to help the poor but deserving individuals go to high school for free.
“Hopefully kung pila ang ma-accumulate human sa run makapaskwela mi og two to three deserving students for a start, but we are doing this run annually so that we will be able to help many students here in Lapu-Lapu,” said Cheryl Zoleta-Ouano of St. Alphonsus Catholic School (SACS) Batch ’87 in a press conference yesterday at SACS Conference Room.
For his part, Lapu-Lapu City Sports Commissioner and councilor Harry Radaza is delighted with the growing popularity of fun runs and marathon in their city.
“I’ve always wanted to start a trend here and further spread the words in promoting good health by means of running,” added Radaza.
