SHS- Ateneo takes P-10 lead in 11th National Interclub Footbal

CEBU, Philippines - Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu has taken the driver's seat of the players'10 division of Cebu Amateur Football Club's 11th National Inter-club Football Cup after collecting its second win at Paref-Springdale's football field in Lahug, this city yesterday.

SHS-Ateneo de Cebu silenced Danao Football Club, 2-0, to take the lead in group B while Danao trails with a 1-1 record.

Danao earlier won against St. Joseph School of Mactan/3 Bros, 5-2.

In the other action of the said class yesterday, Canduman bounced back from defeat by outsmarting Cebu South United, 1-0, for a 1-1 win-loss card under group A.

Group A is led by defending champion San Roque Royal United with two wins and no loss, the second win of which was at the expense of CSU, 9-0.

In the boys'12 division, host Springdale and SHS-AdC posted identical 3-2 victories over Villa del Rio 2 and Danao respectively.

With the win, SHS-AdC leads group B with 2-0 card while Springdale leads group A with the same standing.

On the other hand, Hiroshi has taken the solo lead in the men's 40-above class with three wins in as many outings after escaping defeat against Wealth Bank-Queen City United-A, 3-2, at San Roque Parish' football field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

San Roque, for its part, dumped last year's runner-up, ERCO with a 4-1win, their first after two games.

In the lone women's battle, the University of San Carlos-Technological Campus' bets takes the first semifinal seat following a 2-1 win against Iloilo's Aroroy squad in their first encounter.

In the boys'14 action, Maria Montessori vented its ire from a bad loss against defending champion Mandaue Technical Institute by burying SJSM/3 Bros with a 15-1 victory under group A.

At USC-TC, former boys'17 champion, Abellana National School-Pomeroy scored their second win, 5-0 over Danao under group B.

Both squads were scoreless in the first half until Danao ran out of gas early allowing ANS-Pomeroy to go on a scoring spree.

Earlier, the supposed match between Blessed John and the visiting Manila Soccer Academy has been moved to a latter day following the downpour last Monday afternoon.

USTC, for its part, prevented SHS-AdC from improving their record in group A with a 3-1 triumph in favor of the host school.

The men's division saw USC-TC posting a lop-sided 14-1 win against Count FC while San Roque Royal United pulled a 4-0 win against Coast Guard.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Azkals are scheduled to arrive today here in Cebu from Iloilo City.

The Azkals will be in Cebu for team training, bonding, a commercial shoot and to grace the awarding ceremonies of this CAFC-organized event on the 29th of this month. —  THE FREEMAN
