2011/GTour features refreshing format

- NLQ -

CEBU, Philippines - The four-man team scramble format was a welcome twist for the participants of the 2011/GTour organized by Globe Business at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club last Thursday.

When the awards were handed Thursday night at Radisson Blu Hotel, the team composed of Sergio ‘Boy’ Gonzalez, Edwardson Chiu, Ritchie Vincent Go, and Manny Osmeña II emerged as the champion with a score of nine-under-par 63 strokes.

The format called for all players to hit tee shots and then the team selects the best ball from which the others would also be playing their next shot from. This process is repeated until the ball is holed out.

Second place went to the team of Boboy Romero, Napoleon Pe, Jr. and Romit Gupta with a score of 65 strokes. Teams with only three players were required to have one player play two balls on a hole and the team members had to alternately take the role.

Third place went to the team of Jojo Antonio, Prisco Ponce, Edwin Mabini Semilla, and Jojo Tomines with a score of 67 strokes.

Special prizes also went to Raymond Garcia for the longest drive on hole number 10 and for hitting his drive into the fairway bunker on hole number 5.

Jerry Seno had the most accurate drive on the 11th while Nicolas Wu was nearest the pin on hole number 6.

Hubert Tubio nailed a putt from 14.25 feet on the 18th for the longest putt award while Felix Tiukinhoy had the most accurate shot on the par-4 4th landing the ball 15 inches from the cup.

The invitational tournament was organized by Globe Business for its clients. (FREEMAN)
