Cebu City bets start strong in national Little League tilt

CEBU, Philippines - The Queen City of the South’s young bets showed no sign of fatigue from the long travel they had to take nor they got intimidated by their opponents as they won their first assignments in the 2011 Little League Philippine Series in Lipa City, Batangas yesterday.

Cebu City’s little league softbelles only needed four innings to score a 10-0 victory against Rizal at Malarayat Golf Club.

The young players of coach Dionesio Bacarisas displayed great teamwork to win the battle.

With the big win, the young Cebuanas are expected to play even harder when they take on the Alabang Baseball Club.

The little league baseball also posted a lopsided victory against Cavite, 19-8, under little league baseball group A.

Cebu City’s little league baseball players will be facing Camarines Norte next.

On the other hand, the city’s female senior league team considered the suspension of its game against the International Little League Association of Manila at Banay-banay a blessing in disguise.

That as ILLAM leads the battle 4-0 against the Cebuanas after three innings.

Technical officials had to stop the game since it was already very dark and players and the officiating officials could hardly see what was going on in the game.

It’s yet unknown whether the Cebu City-ILLAM action will resume early today or only after the last scheduled game.

Next for the Cebu City’s senior squad will be Team Cavite late this morning.

It took seven years for Cebu City to join this event.

Thanks to the Cebu City Sports Commission for finally giving a go to these young players.

Little League-Cebu chapter president Jesse Bernad earlier proposed to send four teams, but CCSC only approved three teams.

CCSC decided to send the younger squads for them to gain more exposure to big time tournaments. – THE FREEMAN
