All set for scrabble tourney at UV
CEBU, Philippines - It’s green and go for the World Youth Scrabble Championship-Visayas Qualifying and the University of the Visayas Scrabble Challenge, which are slated on February 24-25 at the University of the Visayas multimedia room.
A new roster of international hopefuls will take center stage as the reigning champion, Albert Lee of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) could no longer defend his title because his age already exceeded in the age limit of 17 years old.
The top two winners in the tournament will be assured of the two slots intended for Visayas players to form part of the Philippine team, which will be sent to the World Youth Scrabble Championship this year in Thailand or Malaysia.
On the other hand, the UV Scrabble Challenge is open to all scrabble enthusiasts aged 18 years old and above.
Atty. Odet Rio from Iloilo will try to claim back-to-back titles this year.
The registration fee for students is pegged at P200 pesos and 300 for the professionals.
The champion will receive P3,000 while the second and third placers will get P2,000 and P1,000, respectively. The fourth and fifth placers will have P500 each. (FREEMAN)
