CEBU, Philippines - Cebu's running queen Mary Grace de los Santos is back with another title after dominating the 1st PLDT-Smart 10 Miler, while little-known Joel Alcorin dominated the men’s division yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
De los Santos topped the 16-kilometer race in one hour, eight minutes and 50.07 seconds.
Madelyn Carter placed second with the time of 1:11:49.11, while as Cebu’s top female triathlete Lorhiz Echavez came out third in1:19:28.88.
Milette Chiongbian landed fourth in 1:20:36.57, while Sharon Vega wound up fifth in 1:20:59.67.
In the men’s side, Alcorin of Escalante, Negros Occidental got the surprise of everyone after coming out first with the time of 56 minutes and 17.59 seconds.
Adonis Singson was at second place in 56:17.59 followed by Philip Duenas in 59:12.79.
Mendel Lopez settled for fourth place with a time of 1:00:19.15 as Noel Tillor ended fifth in 1:00:28.88.
With De los Santos back in the limelight, Mary Joy Tabal opted to compete in the 10K category and succeeded in grabbing the top spot in 42 minutes and 58.13 seconds.
The next four spots were occupied by Christy Tutor (43:48.11), Joeyry Lee (45:09.88), Emily Rosas (47:37.57) and Merlita Arias-Dunkin (48:59.67).
In the men’s side, Joebert Carolino beat Ian Bernido for the top honors by just three-tenths of a second. Carolino clocked in 34:57.13 as Jess Gonzaga landed third in 35:25.57.
Joel Delposo, on the other hand, collected another 5K title with the time of 18:52.13, way ahead of Jorry Ycong (19:08.11) and Russel Camilo (20:37.88).
Aiza Suaybaguio dominated the women’s 5K in 22:29.57. Lorna Olarita was second in 25:25.23 and Rose Marie Adlawan third with the time of 26:08.36 clocking.
Tracksters Sheena Gacayan and Carl Malazarte grabbed part of the spotlight by lording it over in the 3K class.
Gacayan registered the time of 13:22.77 followed by May Jeameka Tenio (13:58.96) and Jade Marie Recto (14:16.11), while Malazarte clocked in 10:49.11 followed by Michael Estrera (10:54.74) and John Cliff Debulosan (11:52.69).—
