Bayani Garcia bags top honors in Eagles Golf tourney
CEBU, Philippines - Bayani Garcia did not seem bothered by the heavy rain as he fired one-under-par 71 last Friday to win the top honors in the Eagles Golf Tournament played at the Cebu Country Club.
Garcia fired nines of 35 and 36 to shoot the lowest gross in the event organized by Sacred Heart School-Jesuit batch 1985 in cooperation with the Aboitiz Group of Companies.
TEAM EVENT
The team of Boboy Durano, Evans Tuimaliwan, and Hospicio ‘Razy’ Razon bagged the title for those that had an alumnus in the line-up. Durano fired a net 71, Tumaliwan had 72 while Razon pushed them up with his net 64 for a total of 207 strokes.
First runner-up honors went to the team of Regan King (71), Jason King (66), and Didi Tiu (71) with 208 strokes.
Third place went to Henry Chu (67), Alvin Tan (73), and Willy Suarez (70) with 210 strokes beating the team of Jerry T. Uy (68), Edward Chu (69), and Alfredo Ong (73) in the countback.
Uy, Chu and Ong instead took the third runner-up honors.
For the teams without an alumnus, the group of Nestor Cabrera (71), Noel Abad (67), and Boyet Dizon (65) bagged the title with a total of 203 strokes.
First runner-up was the team of Edwin Lim (68), Zoe Lim (71), and Arnold Tan (68) with a total of 207 strokes.
Second runner-up honors with a total score of 211 went to Jufil Sato (71), Fernando Mondares (70), and Andrew Cañete (70).
INDIVIDUAL
Alejo Tiu led the winners among the SHS alumni shooting a net score of 12-under-par 60 strokes.
First runner-up was Richard Lim with 65 while Jason King was second runner-up with 66.
Razon had the best individual score among the guests with a net 64 while Dizon took the runner-up honors with his net 65 edging Jay Tremedal in the countback.
Special prizes for nearest the pin went to Henry Chu (No. 3), Noel Ybañez (No. 5), Alfonso Martinez (No. 13), and Alvin Alazas (No. 15).
Frederic Chiongbian last the longest drive on the 17th while Lalay Lava had the most accurate drive. (NLQ) (THE FREEMAN)
