2nd Milo Little Olympics National Finals: Camingao bags Visayas' first gold

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines  — Joseph Camingao bagged the first gold for Team Visayas via the century dash event of the 2nd Milo Little Olympics National Finals yesterday here at Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Center track oval.

The 12-year-old sprinter became the fastest man in the boys elementary division after topping the 100m event with a time of 13.14 seconds. Seemingly wanting for more golds, Camingao duplicated his feat after dominating the 110m hurdles clocking in 18.83 seconds.

Kenneth Virgyll Monzon placed second in the 100m event with the time of 11.62 seconds following Mindanao’s Jerwin Ebcas with 11.40 seconds. Roy Villahermosa ended the 110m hurdles with a silver in 16.16 seconds, just four milliseconds behind Luzon’s Mark Rabanon with 16.12.

The National Capital Region (NCR) showed its girl power after logging three golds courtesy of Vanessa Del Valle in the 800m (2:23.34 secs) and Michelle Palmares in the 100m (12.64 secs) in the secondary division, while Justine Urbano claimed the elementary division title in 13.93 seconds.

Team Visayas secondary athletes, on the other hand, bagged five golds courtesy of Daisy May Lawas and Roy Villahermosa in the 400m hurdles, Jersell Cabatino and Earl Salinas in high jump and Mary Ann Mabansag in the 100m dash.

Swimming

The Bisdaks ended the one-day swimming event without gold in all of the events, seeing the National Capital Region dominating the competition.

NCR hauled 15 out of the 20 available golds in the individual events and swept the team events with eight golds. Luzon got four golds while Mindanao had one.

The silver medalists for Team Visayas were Ana Daniela Paraiso in the 400m freestyle, James Oscar Gravador in the 200m butterfly, Danielle Mae Ballesteros in the 200m breast stroke and John Michelson Beltran in the 100m freestyle.

Table Tennis

Over at the Xavier University, Visayas fended off NCR with Diana Oliverio overpowering Ma. Luisa Payumo in dominating fashion, 11-5, 11-3, 11-5 in the singles event.

The tandem of Ivonne Novicio and Dimple Dumanguit had to pass through a four-setter battle before beating NCR’s Mako Casing and Alyzza Balagot, 11-13, 11-4, 11-3, 11-5.

Their male counterparts did not experience the same fate as they bowed to NCR in a deciding game.

NCR’s Isaac Emmanuel Eneria thumped Jann Mari Nayre in the singles event, 11-9, 12-10, 9-11, 11-5. However, Visayas’ doubles bounced back courtesy of Kent Edwin Abellanon and Gregorio Jose Heredia, who trounced Carl Fritz Victoria and Benedict Alberto, 15-13, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8.

In the deciding set, NCR’s Jaime Desiongco pummeled Visayas’ Stanley Heredia in straight sets, 11-8, 11-5, 11-5 to claim the title.

Lawn Tennis

Eileen Mae Fortuna, Liza Rose Lopez, Mary Jean Bellita and Farah Ardiente of Team Visayas defeated NCR.

The boys squad composed of Arthur Craig Pantino, Jermaine Laurel, Derek Tabotabo and Francis Lambayan, on the other hand, fell prey to Team Mindanao.

Football

Defending champion Abellana National School-manned Team Visayas made an impressive start after blanking Luzon, 7-0, while NCR defeated Mindanao , 6-2.

In the elementary division, Mindanao beat Visayas, 4-3 while NCR prevailed over Luzon , 3-2. (FREEMAN NEWS)
