CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers need more focus in their crucial game against the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles in the main match of today’s secondary triplebill of the 10th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) season at the Cebu Coliseum.
Sporting a 4-1 win-loss record, the Baby Lancers need to beat the Eagles to bolster their chances of finishing as the topseed at the end of the classification round.
Actually, the Baby Lancers still have three games left but they are heavily favored against the USPF Baby Panthers and the USJ-R Jaguars.
Games today (Cebu Coliseum)
3 pm - USPF vs. UC (jrs.)
4:30 pm - CIT vs. USJR (jrs.)
6 pm - SHS-Ateneo vs. UV (jrs.)
The mighty Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons are currently the front-runner with a 6-1 slate, but soon as the Baby Lancers will end the elimination phase with a 7-1 win-loss card, they will become the topnotcher by virtue of a simple tie having defeated the Easternians, 81-76, in their August 6 meeting.
Vincent Mendoza, Gerald Legarde and Alwyn Aguirre are among the vital cogs in the Baby Lancers’ offensive arsenal, while the 4-2 Magis Eagles will depend heavily on their hardworking sentinels in Adven Jess Diputado, Bradley Bacaltos and Henry Renzal Asilum even as they hope that their big men Adrian Muller, Julius Salvador Cadavis and Ray Daniel Abbu would also contribute.
In the other junior matches, the USPF Baby Panthers will take on a tough assignment against the UC Junior Webmasters, while the CIT Wildkittens will go up against the USJ-R Baby Jaguars. — THE FREEMAN
