Move it, Iloilo!

SPORTS EYE - Raffy T. Uytiepo -

After given up for dead, running in Iloilo has risen from the ashes just like the Phoenix. While lamenting the almost extinction of road races here like the mammoth, running is alive and kicking. When MOVE run prime mover Doc. Renald Ramiro asked me if he could attract 300 runners, I was apprehensive. We might have a lot of extra singlets left if we order more than that. But with the new-found popularity of running worldwide, I told Renald "let's gamble for 500". Well we have to reject over a hundred entries as we ran out of both race numbers and singlets. Congratulations to the hardworking Iloilo coordinator Dr. Adrilee Gicos for really exerting efforts to make the race, a success. Of course, we have to commend Dr. Minda Cabrera and Dr. Joe Soriano. It was a concerted effort. We have to thank our supporters, the City of Iloilo through vice mayor Joe Espinosa III and sports coordinator Jojo Castro, Boyet Rentoy of Prosports who handled the water stations (CMS provided the water), Casa Illongga and Medicus. And to those whose names escape us at the moment "Madamo gid nga salamat"

Hulleza, Duerza Rule Move Run

Rowell Hulleza and Mariejol Duerza served notice that they are a force to reckon with in long distance running when they ruled their respective divisions in the Move Run Iloilo 2010, held last Sunday at The Freedom Grandstand. Hulleza clocked 34 minutes and 20 seconds to repulse Randy Siladan who settled for second place in 35:00. Nolibert Sibonga pocketed third in 35:10. Jason Libuna and Rodel Estimada timed 35:37 and 36:00 to place fourth and fifth respectively. In the distaff side, Mariejol Duerza was the fastest in 1:02 with Kathy Mae Delicana bagging second place in 1:02:35. Marle Tan wound up third in 1:07:28. Jorge Seipda registered a time of 16:42 to grab the men's 5k division title with Louis Azaraga placing second in 16:49. Nikki Sibonga won third place in 16:51. Jervie Sobrevega came in fourth in 17:15 with JB Murillo annexing fifth in 17:31. In the women's division, Janine Arrey reigned supreme in 15:54 while Maureen Grace Estanda took second in 20:50 with Alexandra Ganzon rounding up the top three in 21:13. Tetchie Gabales was fourth in 24:21 while Ann Marie Perfas placed fifth in 25:22. In the wheelchair division, the winners are Lambuson(champion), second placer Flores and third placer Ichikawa. The Move Run attracted over 500 runners and was organized by the Philippine Academy of Rehab Medicine(PARM).
