CEVA allows teams to pick up imports in 6th GUV Cup volley
CEBU, Philippines – Tougher battle for the coveted championship looms in the 6th Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup set to kick off this September as the organizers allow each team to pick up two imports to bolster their respective rosters.
We agreed to allow two imports per team so that GUV Cup will be more competitive and more exciting. At the same time, this would serve as the team’s motivation in the competition, said Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA) president Jun San Juan.
San Juan added that the reinforcements are open to all entries. Teams are given the freedom to hire national or international players to play with them in the biggest and grandest volleyball event in the region and perhaps in the entire country.
Last year, the number of participants in the women’s divisions diminished out to the inclusion of the men’s bracket. This year, San Juan said they are hoping for a more number of teams in both categories.
We are inviting and encouraging all the cities and municipalities to field entries in both men and women’s divisions so that the competition will be more lively and exciting, said San Juan.
The GUV Cup organizers are set to meet this Wednesday at the Capitol Social Hall to discuss other important matters relative to the staging of the annual sporting meet.
We will never stop adding something new in the GUV Cup as long as it would be for the betterment of the competition and to make it worthwhile, said San Juan. (THE FREEMAN)
