- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Before the 2010 FIFA World Cup comes to a close, young Cebuano football enthusiasts showed what they’ve got out of watching one of the world’s fancied sports in two separate events over the weekend here.

Jericho Villafuerte became Hyundai’s World Cup-inspired poster-making contest first placer out of the 28 entries in the said contest at Hyundai’s showroom along A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue.Villafuerte depicted a driver on its newly face-lifted Santa Fe model SUV delivering the winning goal in the World Cup to win the judges’ nod.

Agustin Rafael Roa’s art work came out second, while the third to fifth spots went to Derek Yu, Ramon Sa-a and Sam Mongaya.

The equally-exciting and tiring Diski dance saw Oliver and Jack Booth along with JK Ceniza as the best three entries out of the 50 youngsters who participated in the event.

Over at the Aboitiz Sports Field also in Mandaue, the Treadtel Tires Football Cup kicked off.

The first day saw Springdale emerging as the champion in the players 12 with a clean 5-0 record, while San Roque Football Club claimed the players 8 title with a 3-0 slate.

Springdale sealed its bid with a 2-0 victory over ML Canduman, thanks to Sabin Veloso and Ryan James Haosen’s efforts.

San Roque won the players 8 crown with a 2-0 triumph over Canduman B.

A total of 15 teams are seeing action in the two-weekend, seven-a-side competition. CFA decided to limit the number of entries so that the players will have more playing time and enjoy the game well. – THE FREEMAN
