10th Island Tee opens this Thursday

The Kadaugan sa Mactan 10th Island Tee will open on Thursday at the newly-redesigned Mactan Island Golf Club in Lapu-Lapu City.

The four-day event is the club’s annual member-guest tournament and is expected to draw around 300 players.

Retired General Rodante Joya, the club’s general manager, said that they will set a limit of 320 players of 160 teams. Team composition can be a member and a guest or two members of the club, he said.

Entry fee has been pegged at P3,000 per player and the teams will play two rounds within the four-day period of the tournament until Sunday.

The entry fee already covers the caddie, insurance, use of push cart, AFP and Development Fund, and the Mulligan.

The tournament will be using the full handicap Modified Stableford Scoring System, but teams will be classified based on the average handicap of the two players.

Those with average handicap between 0 to 12 will be grouped under class A, 13 to 19 for class B, 20 to 24 for C, and 25 above for D.

There will also be a seniors’ class for teams with a total age of 120 years old or older. No member of the team that will be classified in this division must however be less than 55 years old.

At stake for a hole-in-one is a Kia Rio from Gateway Motors (Kia) Cebu on holes number 8 and 15. There are also a set of Honma 5-star irons from Eagle Port Proshop, a Yamaha motorcycle from Norkis Trading and non-cashable chips from the Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corporation, which are at stake on all par-3 holes.

The platinum sponsors of the event are the City of Lapu-Lapu and Pagcor Mactan, which will be hosting the awards ceremony on Sunday night.

The diamond sponsor of the event is 8990 Housing Development Corp. while gold backers are General Milling Corp., Aboitizland, Tai-1 Cebuano Headway, Mactan Rock Industries, Heart Vit Uniherb Corp., Cebu Landmasters, and Bogo Medellin Sugarcane Planters Inc.

Also supporting the event as gold sponsors are Gothong Southern Shipping, MDR Microware Sales, Commonwealth Estate, PRO Homes, PLDT smenation, Fedders Koppel, Sun Star, and The Freeman.

Joya said that the MIGC Council headed by Maj. Gen. Nathaniel Legaspi, commander of the 2nd Air Division, has also been instrumental in their effort to improve the course, which is the only public golf course in Cebu.

Some of the most recent changes in the layout is the stretching of hole number 3 to a par-5, moving the par-3 4th to the first part of the former hole number 5. The shortening of the 5th to a par-4, the lengthening of the 6th to par-5, the new par-3 hole number 8 and the shortening of the 9th to par-4.
