Baseline unfurls summer sports activities, opens new jiu-jitsu gym

CEBU, Philippines - Want to learn the art of self defense, self control and self discipline? There’s one probable way of achieving that goal as a series of martial arts activities are now going on at the Baseline Sports and Recreation Center along Juana Osmeña Street, this city.

The Cebu Ki Society under chief instructor Max C. Tian is spearheading a KI-aikido training camp. Their regular schedule is from 9 to 11am on weekends, while their summer time slot is set from 3 to 5 pm every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Cebu Ki Society’s membership fee is pegged at P500, monthly fee at P1,500 and summer package at P2,500.

For those who want an alternative for aikido training, the Cebu Aikido Center through Herbert Buot has its own clinic every Sunday from 3 to 5 pm. Entry fee is set at a minimal of P100 per session.

Norman Go, on the other hand, caters to all aspiring martial artists who yearn to learn jiu-jitsu. Monthly fee is set at P1,000 with training session from 7 to 9 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 6 to 8 pm on Sundays.

For taekwondo lovers, Glenn Lava holds special classes from 3 to 4 pm and from 4 to 5 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and from 10 to 11:30 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The regular schedule is for colored belts only from 5:30 to 7 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and from 7 top 8:30 pm on Fridays.

Membership fee is P650, monthy fee is P1,500, while those who will avail of the summer package will be assessed with P2,500.

Instructor Joy Rondez opens his door to karatedo enthusiasts. The summer schedule is slated at 9 to 10:30 am (M-W-F) and 1:30 to 3 pm (T-Th-S). Regular schedule is at 1 to 3 pm on weekends.

Membership fee is P500, monthly fee is P1,500 and summer package is set at P2,500.

Arman K. Vatandost, for his part, will teach about tetada kalimasada. Training sessions are from 7 to 9 pm on Monday, 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday and 7 to 9 pm on Saturday.

Monthly fee is only P300 per participant.

Meanwhile, Deftac—Cebu recently unveiled its new graffiti-themed gym in its new location at the Baseline Sports Complex.The gym is equipped with more than 650 square feet of mat space, kettle-bells, weights, and other equipment designed specifically to meet the needs of any Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner.      DEFTAC-Cebu is the first and only Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu team operating out of Cebu City, with members competing and placing in local and international tournaments.

The gym is headed by DEFTAC-Cebu head instructor Norman Go and currently operates out of their new gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to -9 pm, and on Sundays from 6- to 8 pm. For more information and other concerns, one may visit www.cebujiujitsu.com. (FREEMAN NEWS)
