CEBU, Philippines - Everything is already in place for the 3rd University of the Visayas Scrabble Challenge on February 20-21 at UV's HRM Laboratory.
“We’re glad that the UV Scrabble Challenge is on its third year already. It has been one of the much-awaited tournaments for our scrabble players. This year, we're expecting that more skillful and witty players will join,” said event organizer Engr. Teodoro Martus, Jr., a UV product who is currently RP's top scrabble player.
The two-day tourna-ment is open to all students and professionals aged 18 years old and above with or without Philippine scrabble ratings.
“We would like to promote this mental sporting event to our fellow Cebuanos and through this tournament we will be able to discover potential players, who will have the chance to represent Cebu or even the country as well for future scrabble tournaments,” Martus said.
The UV Scrabble Challenge will use the Word English Scrabble Players Association (WESPA) Rules and the Collins 2007 and Zyzzyva Word Judge dictionaries with a playing time of 25 minutes for each player.
The champion will receive P5,000, while the second and third placers will get P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.
Cash prizes will also be given to the three highest student players who do not belong to the overall top three.
Registration fee is pegged at P350 for professionals and P150 for students.
