CEBU, Philippines - Alex Yeo played near flawless golf last Saturday to win the lowest gross honors for class A in the January Monthly Medal at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, this city.
Yeo had nines of 33 and 39 for a total of even-par 72 strokes.
The lowest net honors for class A went to Loloy Sabuga with 66 strokes off a gross 77. Runner-up honors went to Vic Gocela with a net score of 68.
The lowest gross plum for class B went to Dr. Rey Dira with five-over-par 77 strokes on nines of 37 and 40.
The lowest net for class B went to Rolando Alberto with 65 while runner-up honors went to Jun-jun Osmeña with 66.
Mar Selma once again reigned supreme in class C by bagging the lowest gross honors with 87 strokes.
Jose Ong won the lowest net title with 66 strokes pulling past Ramoncito ‘Don-don’ Arquiza in the countback. Arquiza settled for the runner-up trophy.
Melanio ‘James’ Gaite topped the seniors’ division by shooting 86 strokes to win the lowest gross honors.
Octavio Ong scored the lowest net with 64 while runner-up honors went to Ong Hian King with 71.
Choi Yi Hwa took the trophy for lowest gross in the ladies class with 82 while the lowest net winner was Tessa Ozoa with 71.
In the guest division using the Blind Callaway system, Hospicio ‘Razy’ Razon won the title with his net 72 beating runner-up Toto Lachica in the countback.
Lawyer Marlo Cugtas won a special prize for being nearest the pin on hole No. 6 landing his tee shot six feet and two inches away from the flag stick.
Shelly Gao had the most accurate drive on hole No. 11 as her tee shot landed right smack on the line drawn at the center of the fairway. —NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
