Kim-Cabrera remains on top

CEBU, Philippines - Bad weather or not, Kim Jae Eun and Nestor Cabrera are simply unstoppable.

The tandem continues to hold on to the lead after the penultimate day of the 29th Coral Invitational at the Cebu Country Club.

Kim and Cabrera fired another round of 87 points yesterday in this two-man team event for an aggregate of 174 points.

With the remainder of the field of around 200 teams set to play today, Kim and Cabrera will have to wait if any other team can match their consistency in coming up with outstanding scores.

A far second is the tandem of Alex Garcia and Paul Lee with a two-day total of 165 on rounds of 82 and 83 points.

The Modified Stableford Scoring System is used in the event, which is the club’s signature member-guest tournament.

This format awards six points for a net albatross, five for a net ace, four for a net eagle, three for a net birdie, two for a net par, and one for a net bogey.

Collin Go and Philip Huang are currently at third spot with 164 points on rounds of 86 and 78.

The tandem of long-time buddies Gabriel Yap and Anthony Bejar had a huge jump in performance shooting rounds of 78 and 84 for a total of 162 points while rounding up the top five is the duo of Ricky Brown and Tom Ware with 160 points.

The rains wrought havoc on the scores of several teams yesterday and those who are set to play their final round are hoping for better conditions today.

The team with the highest total score after two rounds will be declared as overall champion.

There will also be the winners for the seniors’ class, which is for teams with total ages of 120 years old or older.

Joseph Yu and Eduard Eden Yu hold the provisional lead for the category with their total of 159 points on rounds of 82 and 77.

A Lexus SUV and a townhouse are at stake for a hole-in-one.

The awards ceremony will be held tonight at the CCC ballroom. (FREEMAN NEWS)
