CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano Jacob Lagman became one of the youngest netters to clinch the under-18 crown of the PCA Open Junior Men’s Tournament in Manila yesterday.
Lagman of Sacred Heart School-Jesuit is only 14 years old but already won an 18-under plum after he pounded out Ernesto Pantua, 6-1, 6-3 in the finals.
Lagman opened his bid by clobbering Alva Salvador, 6-0, 6-0 and then followed it up with another 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Juan Carlo Cano.
Lagman then whipped Arn Frocianos, 6-2, 6-3 before terminating Alberto Villamor, 6-3, 6-4 to roll into the championship round.
It was Lagman’s second straight victory this month as he earlier topped his class in the national finals of the Milo Junior Tennis Championships also in Manila.
Lagman trains his sights next on a tennis circuit in Malaysia late next month. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol FREEMAN NEWS)
