Cebu jins make waves in Manila tikefest

CEBU, Philippines - Team Cebu took home a silver and three bronze medals during the 2009 National Poomsae Taekwondo Championships over the weekend at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Vito Cruz, Manila.

Shaneen Ched Sia, a student of Cebu Doctors’ University, led the victorious Cebuano jins with a silver and two bronzes.

Sia, a member of RP junior team who trains under the watchful eyes of Kenn Toledo, grabbed a silver in the junior girls blackbelt category.

Sia wound up with a bronze in the synchronized team and standard poomsae along with other Cebuano blackbelters in Glenn Lava, Jon Andrew Cabiles, Jacqueline Choa, Marc Ruz, Iyan Anthony Lim, Claire Panaginip and Eunice Oclarit.

Claire Panaginip and Jon Andrew Cabiles, on the other hand, also showed off impressive form that vaulted them to a bronze finish in the blackbelt pair event.

Toledo, for his part, managed to land fourth in the senior 2 blackbelt category, which is open for jins aged 31 to 40 years old.

Toledo, Glenn Lava and Marc Ruz finished fourth in the senior team standard poomsae event.

Lava placed seventh in the senior 1 blackbelt category (18-30 years old), while coach Avenger Alob’s son, Mcavyngr, ended eighth in the grade school boys blackbelt category (11-12 years old).

Team Cebu fielded in a total of 10 players with PTA regional chairman Tony del Prado heading the delegation. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol   (THE FREEMAN)
