CEBU, Philippines – The Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras handed the CCC-CSD Builders their first loss in three games, 81-67, in the 1st Vice Mayor Rudy Espinoza Cup last Wednesday night at the Barba Sports Complex in Toledo City.
The Cobras, who recently won their second straight title in the National Students Basketball Championships (NSBC) in Butuan City, used their speed and quickness to wear down the Builders. They went on to take full control of the match after taking a 40-31 lead at halftime.
Playmaker Aard Diango paced the Cobras with 18 points followed by Alfred Belande with 15 markers. Eric Zanoria and Rene Pacquiao contributed 11 points apiece.
The Builders were led by Aldrin Ocañada and Danny de los Santos with 12 points apiece. The missing link was Jerry Jaca who was held off to a measly two points.
The league is headed by Toledo City councilor and sports committee chairman Jun Borja. He is assisted by tournament director Estoy Jaranilla and technical committee chief Edwin Dejacto.
In the inter-ballclub, the CSD Power Builders annihilated the CSD Staff, 105-67.
