2009 CVIRAA Meet: Cebu City now has 80 golds

DUMAGUETE CITY , Philippines  – The formidable Cebu City Niños continued to dominate on all fronts, increasing their gold medal haul to 80 translated into an imposing 350.5 points after Day 4 of the 2009 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet yesterday here at the Gov. Mariano F. Perdices Memorial Coliseum.

Team Cebu City is way ahead of host Dumaguete with 141.42 points, while Cebu Province jumped to third spot with 130 points. The Niños got the bulk of their golds from lawn tennis, table tennis, gymnastics, swimming, athletics, taekwondo, lawn tennis, and badminton.

In tennis, the Siso siblings powered Cebu City to four golds in the secondary division. The multi-awarded Sally Mae Siso blanked Kimberly Kaye Uytico of Cebu Province , 8-0, to claim the secondary girls singles title, while her older brother Bernardine scored a come-from-behind 8-4 victory over Franklin Encarnacion of Cebu Province.

It’s a triple treat for the Siso as their sister Sally Dine and partner Kristel Mae Buenacosa triumphed in the girls doubles over Janice Cañete and Lucille Gc-ong of Cebu Province .

The younger Cebu Province netters , on the other hand, did not experience the same fate as their older counterparts as they collared four golds in the elementary division.

Jarryd William Laurel and Hardy Montecillo ruled the boys doubles, while Ed Adrian Parangan and Crissiane Aime Gamia snatched the boys and girls singles golds, respectively.

In table tennis, Cebu City scooped eight golds in the secondary division courtesy of Lemuel Agbon, Danel Jay Tormis, Nathaniel Motel, Darbet Tripoli, Elona Dane Tormis, Girly Apas, Candy Babalcon and Gacy Suico.

In the elementary division, Cebu City’s Paul Locaylocay, Jean Phillippe Honoridez and Impuesto brothers, Jerome and James Tracyl accumulated 15 points for lording it over in the boys team event. The girls side was dominated by Mary Ann Tapayan, Ma. Rowena Sanico, Charisse Mae Juntilla and Diana Oliverio.

In girls’ rhythmic gymnastics (RSG), Cebu City swept all eight golds available. Karen Sthea Velez contributed three golds from the ribbon, ball and individual all-around, while Ma. Carmelli Garovillo poured in two golds in the hoop and rope. Garovillo and Velez along with Nicole Sedeno won the Team RSG category.

After winning the 100m hurdles and 200m sprint, Jee Ann Racoma of the University of Cebu (UC) completed a treble by ruling in the 100m sprint with the time of 13.04 seconds. Earl Salinas topped the triple jump in 13.03m, but settled for a silver medal in long jump in 6.28m.

The Cebu City tracksters also won 4x100m relay in athletics behind the efforts of Ariel Dayondon, Earl Salinas, Clint John Pila and Mark Dave Agdasiw, who clocked in 45.47 seconds.

In the elementary class, Roice Kent Jardin, Jean Sherwin Jimenez, Nino Vincent Soria and Raul Perez Jr. finished with 51.85 seconds to top the 4x100m event, while Jimenez, Soria, Perez and Mac Nellas dominated the 4x400m relay in 20.46 seconds.

Raul Perez Jr., who took the golds in 200m run and 110m hurdles in the elementary boys category, was another triple gold medallist from Cebu City’s as he won the 100m run in 12.60 seconds.

In taekwondo, Cebu City bagged three golds from Jeah Maglasang (finweight), Jesset Paglinaan and Lord Jay Guia in the bantamweight division.

Danao City grabbed four golds courtesy of Raymond Kerl Banzon (lightweight), Kenneth Encalso (finweight), Kristal Lianne Tampos (flyweight) and Ma. Rhodora Martel (featherweight).

In elementary taekwondo, the Niños took eight more golds from Charles David Labiste, Ramon Christopher Rosal, Eric Garces Jr., Keith Bryan Fernandez, Precious Kate Nacorda, Charisse Labiste, Ashera Nicole Dayuday and Jaysa Anna Gabuya.

Jessa Lagat and Jeralyn Taboada bagged the girls doubles title in badminton after beating   Yesha Silawan and Lovely Magallano of Tagbilaran City.

Mandaue City ’s Patrick Estoconing and Janelle Dihiansan won the boys and girls singles golds after thumping Cebu City’s Mark Sua and Irish Mae Ares, respectively.

Jesrel Mauro and Pablo Aredidon of Cebu Province took the boys doubles title after routing Cebu City ’s Aljun Pinote and Estorba John Enriquez, while Cebu City ’s Lindsay Salomon topped the girls singles. (THE FREEMAN)
