Underbone circuit racing tomorrow at SRP

CEBU, Philippines - Over 100 motorists will plunge into action as the 1st Underbone Dirt Circuit Racing fires off tomorrow at the South Road Properties (SRP), this city.

“We are expecting more than one hundred participants because we are not just catering the elite racers but we are encouraging the beginners and first-timers to join this race,” said Eugene “Gene” Faelnar of the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) during a press conference yesterday at the Yayoy’s Grill and Resto Bar.

The race is open to everybody and with no age limit. Expected to join the race are motorists from Negros, Bohol, Davao and Dipolog.

The featured categories include the first-timer, beginners, novice and experts.

“Most of the categories are non-professional because we wanted to educate the riders or the motorists, especially the owners of the motorcycles, on driving safely, and to respect the motorcycle culture for that matter,” said Faelnar.

Cebu City Traffic Operations and Management (CITOM) executive director, Arnel Tansinco said that 12-40 motorcycles are impounded everyday due to lack of documentation and mostly reckless driving.

“We will be at the venue also in order to monitor the safety of the race and also the safety of the vehicles that will be coming at the area,” said Tansinco.

The CCSC will also conduct a formal riding clinic to teach basic driving skills to all the motorists and to those who are planning to own a motorcycle.

The one-day activity is supported by Honda Motorworld. Registration starts at 7 am on the race day. Entry fee is pegged at P150 inclusive of a PPT oil. – Marigold P. Lebumfacil (THE FREEMAN)
