CEBU - The Cebu-Customs United Personeros Association (C-CUPA) slammed the Wharfingers, 81-66, in the 35-above category of the 14th Collector’s Cup basketball tournament at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
Starting this weekend, all the succeeding games of the tournament will shift to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Sports Complex in Brgy. Punta Princesa, this city.
The Personeros are the errand boys and personnel of the Customs brokers, while the Wharfingers are the ones who owned and supervised the wharves.
Juan Ponce and Choy Estrada combined for 29 points for C-CUPA, while Ferdie Sigue, a former member of the Customs Employees and Brokers Union (C.E.B.U.) All-Stars, chipped in 11 markers spiked with three triples.
The Wharfingers were led by Wenher Daan with 18 points.
The Enforcement Security Service-X Ray Division led by Jingjing Rama is the defending champion in the 35-above category, but it faces tough opposition either against the Collector’s Office of coach Atty. Paul Alcazaren or the Mactan Hotmen of coach Dacky Ugay.
The tournament is under supervision of District Collector Ricardo Belmonte. It is aimed at fostering camaraderie and physical fitness among the rank and file employees of the Bureau of Customs and the brokers.
