CEBU - Players from different clubs set the early pace at the start of the 4th Alta Vista Jungolf Challenge yesterday at the AVGCC course in Pardo, this city.
Jobim Carlos of The Country Club leads class A for the boys’ division with an opening round of six-over-par 78 strokes one ahead of Aguinaldo’s Eric Gallardo, who shot 79.
Patrick Uy and Nico Evangelista, who are both from Valley Golf, share third with identical outputs of 81 strokes in the 15 to 17 years old class. At fifth is Valley’s Jonar Austria with 82 strokes.
In the girls’ division, Alta Vista’s Irina Gabasa pulled away early from the field scoring 83 strokes yesterday on nines of 42 and 41. At second spot is Abby Olea of Cebu Country Club with 91 followed by Del Monte’s Kristine Leonen with 92.
Only three divisions played yesterday. These are classes A and B and the Special Division for those 18 to 21 years old. The rest of the field will see action starting today.
In class B, Miguel Tabuena of the Jungolf Foundation, leads the boy’s class with 74 strokes. He is tied for the top spot with CCC’s Lloyd Jefferson Go, who also shot 74 yesterday.
Gio Gandiongco of Alta Vista is at third spot of the 13 to 14 years class with 76 strokes. At fourth is Kenneth Kano of Aguinaldo with 77 followed by Vijay Vasandani of Mactan Island Golf Club with 80.
In the distaff side, Apple Fudolin of Del Monte and Daniella Uy of Valley lead the cast with 85 strokes apiece. Merakel Embalzado of The Country Club is at third with 87 followed by Juilly Vasandani of Mactan at fourth with 92.
Sharing the fifth spot are Emy Lou Tan of Alta Vista and Sheryl Villasencio of The Country Club with 95 strokes each.
In the special division, Louie Stephen Mariano of Mactan carded 78 strokes on nines of 34 and 44. JR Quiachon of Del Monte runs second with 81 strokes while Charles Thomas Tiu of The Country Club is third with 93 strokes.
This three day event will run until Thursday and is participated in by players from all over the country. (THE FREEMAN)
