CEBU – Daanbantayan bucked a first set miscue to beat Medellin in three sets yesterday and snatch anew the mainland title of Cluster 4 in the on-going 4th Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Cup for Women.
Daanbantayan, who finished with a clean 4-0 slate, is just waiting for the winner of the islander cluster for the championship of Cluster 4.
Defending champion Sta. Fe will be battling Bantayan and Madredijos today for the right to meet Daanbantayan.
If Sta. Fe wins, it will be a rematch of the last year’s championship. This time, however, Daanbantayan is hoping to come up the winner.
Daanbantayan showed it has learned its lesson from last year’s loss to Sta. Fe by outlasting Medellin.
Both teams, Daanbantayan and Medellin, were 3-0 before the match. Medellin took the first set 25-23 and looked headed to win when Daanbantayan struck back with a 25-9 second set win to level the count.
In the third set, Daanbantayan showed it’s ready for another crack at the championship with a solid 25-15 win. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
