USJ-R stops SWU, sails to semis

CEBU – The University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) topped Southwestern University (SWU) in three sets to sail smoothly into the semifinals of the CESAFI women’s division volleyball.

The USJ-R volleybelles of famed Coach Grace Antigua took out SWU 25-23, 25-17, 25-20 to finish the elimination round with a 5-0 card and enjoy top spot in the semis.

Starring in the victory were former RP youth members Genie Sabas and Michelle Sambajon. They got plenty of help from Cristy Aina Laroga, Sarah Miculob, Carla Garces, Hannah SIngson and Joy Bonita.

The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) of Coach Jordan Paca took the second spot in the semifinals after beating the University of the Visayas 25-17, 25-13, 25-13.

In today’s crossover matches, USJ-R takes on USC while SWU battles USPF.

In the men’s division, back-to-back champions the University of San Carlos (USC) settled down after losing the fist set to USPF to win in four sets 25-22, 25-23, 25-20, 29-27. The two teams will meet again today in the semifinals.

UV earned a seat in the semifinals after overpowering Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) 25-20, 25-16 and 25-19 and will face the number one team USJ-R in the other semifinals pairings. – THE FREEMAN
