San Roque Royal United joins inter-club bootfest

San Roque Royal United plays today the Inter-Club Football Tournament at the USC Talamban Campus.

The tournament opens with an exhibition game between the Philippine national team known as “Azkals” against the Queen City United men’s team.

Head coach Totot Colina said he has high expectations about his team, describing those playing in the men’s open as a “mix of players who come from very good teams.” The team has 22 players who will be playing in today’s tournament and most of them have been playing football for at least four years.

“We have the passion and dedication for the game,” said team members in a talk with The Freeman at the San Roque Parish football field. “This is not only passion but this is really for the love of the game. Soccer is a way of life. This is part of our everyday life,” they said.

Based in Subangdaku, Mandaue City, the San Roque Royal United is a non-profit football club dedicated to providing quality football program for the youth of San Roque Parish as well as other interested individuals in promoting growth and appreciation for the game of football.

SRRU president Sheldon Colina said that it is the mission of the club to “instill knowledge and love for football while creating a fun environment for members to develop skills, learn sportsmanship and engage in healthful competition.”

In addition to the Men’s Open, SRRU has teams for the player 6 (those 6 years old and below) and players 17 and 19 (those 19 years old and younger but above 6 years old).

SRRU was formed April 5 last year and has since been growing in membership. Colina said he is thankful to those who have been supportive to the team namely ERCO, Art Reyes and Ed Co. (Ruth G. Mercado)
