The Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras split their pair of goodwill games in Xiamen City, China last week. Their China trip was their incentive for winning the National Students Basketball Championships (NSBC) collegiate crown last March 1 at the Cebu Coliseum.
Last April 19, the Cobras bowed to host city Xiamen University, 75-82, at the Xiamen Sports Complex, but made up from that loss two days later by thrashing of the Jimei University, 69-56.
Lloyd Poligrates and Art Diango topped the Cobras with 12 points, while
Liu Yang was the lone double-digit scorer for Jimei University with a game-high 21 markers.
SWU team manager Ryan Aznar said they learned a lot from the Chinese basketball program during their brief stay in the country that is accounted for the world’s largest population.
The scores:
SWU (69) - Poligrates 12, Diango 12, Belande 11, Zanoria 9, Gianchand 9, Litorja 4, Jalandoni 4, Ceniza 3, Maguate 3, Armecin 2
Jimei U. (56) - Liu Yang 21, Chen Cheng Yi 9, Sun Wei 9, Liu Je Lei 6, Zhang Heng 5, Li Zhong Bin 2, Huang Yun Pao 2 (GGM)
