To kick off its first ever ‘Lapyahan’ festival, the municipality of San Remigio in cooperation with the Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup and Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA) will stage the st San Remigio Beach Volley Open on May 10-11.
The competition is open up to 10 teams. So far, eight teams have already confirmed their entry in the all-ladies tilt.
They are Jusabelle Brillo and Janez Armie Ygot of the University of the Visayas (UV), Florian Gutierrez and Janelle Tabio of Southwestern University (Summer Breacker), Erika Camile Verano and Herlene Ybarita of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, (USPF), and Jeremy Motalvo and Juvy Glipo of the University of San Carlos (USC).
Also joining are Marites Natad and Christine Rose Bohol of Volleygals, Mechelle Matuguina and Marissa Lagancia of M2M, Kennette Garces and Lorie Mae Layno of Volleybelles, and Michelle Gemarino and Desiree Valiar of the Atenians.
CEVA President Glenn Anthony Soco said in a press conference yesterday that most players are products of the GUV CUP.
San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez said that their town has the longest beachfront in the province, thus, it is a perfect venue for the event.
Aside from being the kick-off activity of the festival, the event also aims to promote tourism and beach volley in San Remigio.
Aside from trophies and medals, the champion will receive P5,000, while the second and third placers will take home P3,000 and P2,000, respectively. Non-winners will receive consolation prizes.
Rules of the games will strictly be enforced as CEVA wants to raise the standard of beach volley in the province.
