2008 MS Motosuit Motocross Series roars off today in Liloan

The 2008 edition of the MS Motosuit Motocross Series, the biggest and richest motocross event in Southern Philippines, will formally kick off this morning in Sitio Tuburan, Jubay, Liloan.

At least 50 daredevils from all over Cebuano and other areas in the Visayas and Mindanao will see action in the swashbuckling event dubbed as “Barangay Captain Manuel Wagas Cup.”

All eyes, however, are expected to be on Jubannie Abellar, who was crowned as the 2007 MS Mososuit’s “Rider of the Year” just last night at the Grand Convention Center of Cebu

Abellar bagged the prestigious award based on points he gained from the premiere experts class. He bested veteran Pepo Rubi, Jon-Jon Adlawan and 2006 ROY awardee Irwin Uypitching.

This season, the organizers led by revered sports patron Lou Ornopia contemplate on changing the basis of selection for the ROY award. Instead of focusing only on the experts class, they will consider this time all the riders points from the other categories.

With that, the riders in the lower classes will be encouraged to compete not only for supremacy in their respective divisions, but also for the coveted ROY award.

This year, the MS Motosuit motocross series will feature a total of 12 legs.— Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
