Sinulog bowlfest rolls tonight

The 9th Sinulog Classic Open 2008 unravels tonight at the Gaisano Bowlingplex in Banilad, this city, with the likes of Clarence Tiu, Jomar Jumapao, Bel Suelto, Alexi Sy and Kim Lao showing their wares.

The four-day tournament features two squads, Squad I composed of Cebu-based bowlers and Squad 2 for out-of-towners, including 4-time world champion and Guinness Book of Records holder Paeng Nepomuceno. 

Two notable keglers, however, won’t be around this year. Defending champion Benshir Layoso of Manila Tenpin Bowling Association (MTBA) and Clarence Tiu begged off due to prior commitments.

All bowlers will be playing 16 games in the qualifying round with the first eight games for Squad I starting tonight while the out-of-towners play their first eight games tomorrow night. Both squads will take play the last eight games on Friday.

The top 36 bowlers after the elimination round will advance to the finals set on Saturday, wherein they will play in eight games.

A total of P200,000 thousand is at stake for the top performers of the said event. Although this is an open competition, the top three lady bowlers, after the elimination round, will get an incentive of P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000,respectively.

Aside from that, a P50,000 bonus awaits the bowler who rolls a perfect game. Should there be more bowlers who scored a perfect game, the prize will be divided proportionally. Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
