Exciting hardcourt showdown will greet the new year with the staging of the Cebu Zonals for the 2008 National Students’ Basketball Championships set from January 9 to 13 at the Cebu Coliseum.
The top two finishers of the five-day cagefest supported by Hotel Fortuna, La Fortuna Bakery, Pepsi Cola and Nature’s Spring will earn the right to represent Cebu in the National Students Championships on February 25 to March 5 also at the Coliseum.
Event organizer and BAP-SBP Cebu Province director Lorenzo “Chao” Sy said there’s a big possibility that the third placer will also advance to the National Finals as Cebu is entitled to field in at least three teams as token for being the host of the annual tilt.
Chao Sy said at least six teams have already signified their intent to take part in the maiden hoop action of the year.
These are seven-time CESAFI champion University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, runner-up University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras, Asian College of Technology (ACT) Cyber Knights, and Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) Skyblazers.
Chao Sy added they’re also inviting the rest of CESAFI members schools University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, University of Southern Philippines Panthers (USPF) Panthers, and Don Bosco College Greywolves to join the contest.
Aside from the men’s collegiate division, there will also be competition for the women’s and juniors categories.
Chao Sy said the tournament format will hinge on the number of entries. For further inquiries, one may call Chao Sy at (032) 254-0741.
