Reigning MVBA First Conference Visayas champion Arthro Kontra Arthritis capitalized on its experience and vast hardcourt maturity to smother seven-time CESAFI titlist University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, 83-64, in their basketball exhibition match recently at the Consolacion Sports Complex.
Arthro of sports patron Jonathan ‘Atan’ L. Guardo and coach Al Solis did not give the UV Lancers of coach Elmer ‘Boy’ Cabahug any chance to recover after launching a decisive opening attack, 16-7.
Alex Cainglet netted 13 points followed by Ronaldo ‘Magic’ Bucao with 12 for Arthro, which sealed the first half with a 13-point advantage, 41-28. Arthro further clobbered the Lancers in the final two quarters, 42-36, for the 19-point romp.
Former UV Lancers Leodi Garcia, Jerome Gadiane, and Jonas Mark Ababon contributed 10 points each for Arthro, while Doroteo Almacin, Jojo Omandam, Manny Garbas and Bernie Ursal connived for 31 markers.
6-foot-11 Fil-Am Gregory Fuentes-Slaughter was the lone bright spot for the UV Lancers with a game-high 20 points. Though for a losing cause, Slaughter’s performance speaks for itself and connotes that he is ready to venture into the commercial ranks.—EBV
