The country’s elite mountainbikers will once again showcase their wares in the inter-nationally-known racecourse in Danao with the staging of the 2007 Danao City Mountainbike Competition today.
The action starts and ends at the Danao city hall.
The post-ponement of the event the other week turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it allowed the participation of the RP mountainbikers that will see action in the 24th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games this December in Thailand.
The Thailand-bound pedal-pushers include Marites Bitbit, Eusebio Quiñones and Frederick Feliciano, who completed a 1-2-3 finish for RP in last year’s SEAG. They will be joined by Niño Surban and downhiller Joey Barba.
Local entries, however, need not worry or be scared as there are seven other classes to be featured in the competition:juniors, seniors, veterans, masters A and B, ladies and executives division.
The top three riders in the open division will get P5,000, P3,000, and P2,000, respectively, while the seniors division’s top 3 will pocket P2,000, P1,000, and P500.
The juniors and veterans’ top 3, on the other hand, will get a uniform prize of P1,500, P700 and P400, while the other division winners get P1,000 P500 and P300.
The event is a post-fiesta celebration activity of Danao organized by the Danao City Sports Commission through the effors of Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez, Jr. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
