GAA hoop finals Moved July 9

- Gabby G. Malagar -
Because of the "Mano-A-Mano" 12-round fight between Filipino boxing icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao against Mexican Oscar "Chololo" Larios at the Araneta Coliseum, the Guadalupe Athletic Association (GAA) 7th Founder's Cup finals has been moved from July 2 to July 9 at the Guadalupe Sports Complex.

The officers of GAA decided to move the games because they want all their members to watch the Pacquiao-Larios fight.

The GAA championship battle finals will be contested between Rama-Bullo and Egpyt Sportwear.

Rama-Bullo and Egpyt both fashioned out come-from-behind victories in last Sunday's knockout semifinals against the G&S International and Aqua Serv, respectively.

It was Egpyt, which booked the first finals slot as it booted out Aqua Serv despite being down by 18 points in the first period. It regained the lead only in the final three minutes of the fourth period courtesy of the go-ahead triple by Ramir Nabua, 49-46, that forced Aqua Serv to collapse down the stretch.

Rama-Bullo, led by former vice-governor Enrico Rama and Dr. Stephen Bullo, grabbed the second finals berth by also coming from behind 20 points only to steal the game in the dying seconds handing another jinx on title contender G&S International.

For third place, it will be a tug-of-war between the Allan Ricaña-led Aqua Serv against the G&S International. Also expected to shine for Aqua Serv, another title contender, are team owner Franklin Aniñon, big man Sitong Francisco and Dennis Santillan and Armstrong Fernandez.

On the other hand, G&S will rely on William Jabines, Rene Tinapay, Joey Tablada and Nono Calitas.
