P20T at stake in Mayor Canoy chess team tourney

A total of P29,000 is at stake in the 1st Mayor Antonio L. Canoy Inter-City/Municipality Chess Team Tournament set from May 13 to 14 at the San Fernando Sports Complex in San Fernando, Cebu.

The champion will receive P10,000, while the second palcer will pocket P5,000. The third and fourth will pocket P5,000 and P3,000, respectively.

The top board players, on the other hand, will get P1,000 each.

The richest chess team event in Cebu in recent years is open to all interested teams representing a city or municipality. If a certain city or municipality deserves, two teams may be allowed to join and will be represented as teams A and B.

Each team shall be composed of four regular members and two alternate players. A team must have a designated team captain, who may decide to play or not. Only one titled player is allowed to join per team.

Depending on the number of entries, the format may be a single round robin or a Swiss system.

Registration fee is pegged at P900 per team.

The two-day chessfest, which will be governed by the rules and regulations of the International Chess Federation, will be supervised by tournament director Bob S. Tojong assisted by chief arbiter Marvin Ruelan.
