The 4th Governor Gwen Garcia-Mayor Thadeo Ouano Horse Show Competition (Kabayo Festival) will kick off on February 25 at the Cebu Boardwalk in Mandaue South Reclamation Area.
Nelson Tudtud, president of Cebu Equine Owners, Breeders, and Sportsmen Association (CEOBSA), said in a press conference yesterday at the Mandaue City Hall that around 40 horse breeders from different parts of the country are expected to participate in the annual event.
The CEOBSA is the one organizing this Kabayo Festival, which aims to promote sports, agricultural, and eco- tourism awareness in the country.
Among the highlights of the two-day event are the parade of horses, horse racing competition and the search for the best decorated tartanillas, which will be represented by the locals who provide tartanilla transportation in Pasil and Duljo areas of Cebu City.
Jake Mendez, CEOBSA vice president said the horse competition is divided into six divisions: youth, ladies, novice, executives, experts and auxilliary.
Mendez said through the festival, the people will be educated about the importance of horses and at the same time discourage horse fighting in our society.
The festival will also feature a bazaar and flea market dubbed as 'Tabo sa Rancho' wherein companies and local government units from Visayas and Mindanao can merchandise and promote their products.
Mendez added that expats from Japan, United Kingdom, United States and other countries will also take part in the event.
Cheryl Ouano, chairperson of Mandaue City Sports Development Commission, said that for the first time the event is tied-up with the Department of Tourism.
Ouano added the provincial government has allocated P100,000, while the city government will also contribute and do its share to ensure a successful event.
