Lancers, Webmasters to represent Cebu in National Students caging

The University of the Visayas Lancers and the University of Cebu Webmasters are gearing up for the 2005-2006 PBFI National Students Championships set February 18-26 in Manila.

The Lancers will be representing Central Visayas in the men's tertiary and secondary levels.

UC, on the other hand, will be playing in the collegiate women's division.

Central Visayas will have no representative in the secondary girls' division since only the tertiary level had a competition in women's basketball.

The Lancers are raring to go compete in the tournament even if some of its key players will not be able to join the competition.

UV assistant coach Al Solis said that some of the team members, who played in the CESAFI, will not be with the team in the National Students caging since one of them is already over the 25 year-old age limit and the others are into the commercial teams.

"Naa na may uban diri nga nanuwa sa commercial teams, lisod man kaayo ug atong pugson pagpaduwa," coach Solis said.

Solis will be tapping some of his players in the reserve list to fill in the shoes of those who can not make it to the team.

Now, the Lancers are busy with its physical conditioning especially that most of their players gained some pounds during the holidays.

With a month of rigid practice, coach Solis believes UV will be ready to battle it out for the crown.

The UV squad is focusing in the event after they missed to take part in the regional meet of the PRISAA, thus will be missing the National Games as well.

Another tournament, the Champion's League which UV is also anticipating, is still in the drawing board.

On the other hand, the UC cagebelles are doubling their preparation right now as they are representing the region in two big events.

They will also be competing in the PRISAA National Games in Dagupan.

The NSC's secondary boys and collegiate men's division will be composed of 12 teams in each division, with one representative each from Northern, Central and South Luzon, one from Bicol Region, West and Central Visayas, one each from West Mindanao and East Mindanao.

Metro Manila will have three entries, the champion team in the UAAP, NCAA and CUSAA, plus one wild card entry.

The women's action in the tertiary level, on the other hand, will have a total of seven entries with four in the secondary division.
