Martus places second in New Year scrabble

Cebuano word wizard Teodoro Martus, Jr. clinched the second place honors in the New Years Eve Scrabble Extravaganza Tournament yesterday at Sariyaya, Quezon Province.

Martus of University of the Visayas piled up 6.0 points with 556 spread points, capping his victory with an opening round upset over top seed and veteran international player Ronald Credo by 100 spread points.

Martus, whose trip to Malaysia recently was sponsored by Banco Filipino, took home P4,000 from the eight-round King-of-the-Hill format tournament.

Andronico Aquino topped the one-day tournament by tallying 7.0 points with 514 spread points and pocketed P5,000.

Francis Dizon followed in third place with 6.0 points and 305 spread with Delio Dimaanio and Robbie Oñate with 184 and 109 spread points, respectively, completing the top five.

Leo Capuno finished sixth with 5.0 points while Oscar Rivera landed seventh place.-Sona Mae V. Povadora
