USJ-R, UC top CESAFI badminton event

The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) college team bagged three gold medals to take the championship title in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. yesterday at the University of the Visayas (UV).

Ian Mendez lead USJ-R as he grabbed the title in the single-B category, defeating UV's Eduardo Dignos, 15-8, 15-2.

They also dominated the men and women's doubles with the tandem of Spyro Mijares and Solito Flores beating Jed Sumalinog and Jonathan Olofernes of UC, 15-5, 15-5 and the pair of Joebelyn and Geryl Aliwate, drubbing Rojane Lisondra and Maria Lourdes Arededon of UC, 15-12, 13-15, 7-15.

Team UV captured two gold medals, winning single A of the men and women's category over USJ-R. Gabriel Suico of UV smashed USJ-R's JR Coca, 15-3, 15-10, while in the distaff side saw UV's Leah Ganadin stunning national champion Kara Montejo of USJ-R, 11-7, 11-8.

University of Cebu's pride Hazel Blyth Peroy tamed USJ-R's Flora May Armecin, 11-3, 11-6, to win in the women's single B category.

In the high school division, University of Cebu ruled in the singles A and B for girls and in the boys doubles.

The tandem of John Roy Densing and James Bell Rizon anchored UC to the team championship title with a total of three crowns beating UV's Marjorie Lagat, Rishelle Carbajosa and the pair of Niño Anthony Go and Markim Carbajosa.

USJ-R topped in the boys single A and in the women's doubles courtesy of Clint Dexter Armamento, who beat UC's Alvin Seno, 15-3, 15-2 as well as Michelle Angel Lomotos and Mary Rose Lomotos who defeated Josie Coca and Jam Jewell Collamat of UV, 15- 12, 15-0.
