"Unity and Excellence through the Academe, Culture, and Sports."
This will be the theme as the University of the Visayas kicks off its 2005 Intramurals today at the UV quadrangle.
"We came up with that theme because we want to unify the different departments and promote academic, cultural and sports development among the students," said UV athletics director Cris Mejarito.
The opening ceremony promptly starts with a holy mass at 7 am. This will be followed by the parade of competing delegations from the different college departments.
Expected to grace the affair are UV vice president for adminstration Eladio Dioko, who will deliver the opening remarks, and UV assistant VP for administration and finance Gerald Anthony "Didi" S. Gullas, who will formally declare the tournament open.
The selection of best muse as well as the dance palabas, taekwondo demonstration and pop dance competition will highlight the opening bash.
Among the sporting disciplines that will be featured in the four-day athletic meet are basketball, volleyball, sepak takraw, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, track and field, swimming, taekwondo, scrabble and chess. - Norvie S. Misa, UV Journalism Intern
