Philippine triathlon team skipper to the 2005 Southeast Asian Games Arland Macasieb proved his worth with a victory in the Green Book Race in Staten Island in New York.
The Filipino-American Macasieb, which was recently named by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines as one of the flag carriers in the SEA Games, was aided by a Vellum bike on his way to the championships in the Green Book Race.
He clocked 57.06 seconds to win the plum in the sprint triathlon over Scott Duprex, who arrived at the finishing line 12 seconds later.
Macasieb, who is sponsored by Vellum Cycles and ZIPP, defeated 499 other entries in the three-in-one sporting event en route to carving a name within the elite triathletes in the US.
"This is a huge victory for Arland. The win is a very good exposure for us sponsors," said Chris Aldeguer, president of Vellum Cycles, who was also a part of the RP Triathlon team.
Macasieb, one of the top bets to win the gold in the SEA Games, will continue to hone his skills in New Jersey in preparation for the 2005 SEA Games in Subic.
