Cordova residents receive rice aid
CEBU, Philippines — At least 24,000 individuals benefited from the rice assistance distributed in the Municipality of Cordova as part of the government’s efforts to provide relief amid ongoing economic challenges.
The kickoff distribution was led by Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro and Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan. The distribution is expected to last for two days.
During the ceremony, Baricuatro reaffirmed the commitment of the provincial government and the local government unit (LGU) to supporting local government units and sustaining public service programs despite ongoing challenges.
In her speech, Baricuatro emphasized the importance of cooperation between provincial and municipal leaders in delivering services to communities.
Baricuatro likewise recognized the assistance being extended by the national government, particularly by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The provincial government allocated P3.2 million, while the LGU allocated P4 million for the 24,000 beneficiaries, wherein 4,000 received P250 each for gasoline, while more or less 20,000 received five kilos of rice each.
She acknowledged the difficulties faced by local governments in serving their constituents but expressed optimism for Cebu’s economy and industries.
“Despite all the challenges and struggles in operating the village and serving the community, I always keep in mind that ‘this too shall pass.’ Hopefully, maayo na ang ekonomiya sa Cebu ug sa atong industriya,” she said.
During the event, Baricuatro also announced the release of P50 million intended for the long-awaited Cordova hospital project.
“Mayor, na-release na ang P50 million para makasugod mo sa inyong hospital. Anytime ready na na. Padayon lang gyud ta,” she announced.
Mayor Suan welcomed the development and expressed gratitude for the provincial government’s support.
“Daghang salamat, Gov sa paghatag sa P50 million para sa atong hospital. Padayon ta,” Suan said.
Baricuatro also shared that discussions regarding the hospital’s operations are ongoing and that the facility is expected to become operational next year through the support of the provincial government.
The mayor noted that the hospital project has remained unfinished since 2010 and expressed hope that it will soon become operational.
“Until now, mura gyud siya’g white elephant, but hopefully mahimo na gyud ni siyang functional,” he said.
