Cebu City gets P4.85 millio share from CCLEX

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu City received a bigger amount from the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), with ?4.85 million turned over from its 2025 toll revenues --an increase compared to the previous year’s share.

The ceremonial turnover was held last Thursday, April 30, during the bridge’s fourth anniversary, with CCLEX Corp. President and General Manager Allan Alfon presenting the check to Mayor Nestor Archival.

Under the joint venture agreement, Cebu City and the municipality of Cordova are each entitled to 1% of annual toll collections for the 45-year concession period.

Since CCLEX opened in April 2022, the city’s share has steadily grown, rising from ?1.69 million in 2023 to ?3.7 million in 2024, before reaching the bigger ?4.85 million in 2025.

“This marks the fourth year of CCLEX operations --highlighting the value of strong infrastructure partnerships in driving the city’s growth and development,” Archival said.

The ?4.85-million share will be directed into the general fund to support programs and services aligned with Cebu’s vision of building a smart, sustainable, and inclusive city.

“These resources will help us continue taking action and taking care by strengthening programs and services that benefit our communities and improve the lives of every Sugboanon,” Archival added.

Aside from the turnover, CCLEX Corp. also unveiled a new proposed project as a priority instead of the Guadalupe ramp proposal.

The company is now prioritizing the construction of a major interchange along the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR), intended to address traffic surges expected with the opening of the 16,000-seat SM Arena at the South Road Properties.

The interchange will feature an off-ramp that allows motorists from Mactan and the airport to directly access downtown and uptown Cebu without detouring through Talisay or congested Vestil Street, and an on-ramp near Barangay Ermita that will connect vehicles from Osmeña Boulevard, M.J. Cuenco Avenue, and the port area directly to CCLEX.

Estimated to cost between ?3 billion and ?4 billion, the interchange is expected to ease congestion, reduce travel time, and lower fuel consumption and emissions.

Offshore construction methods are being considered to accelerate completion, with a target of 18 months once work begins.

The proposal will undergo review by the Cebu City Council, but Archival had already welcomed it as a critical innovation to prevent gridlock and align with Cebu’s broader mobility and sustainability goals. (CEBU NEWS)
