Pedestrian traffic light installed at Guadalupe school
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Government has formally inaugurated a newly installed pedestrian traffic light in front of Guadalupe Elementary School, reinforcing its initiative to improve road safety for students and nearby residents.
The signal, positioned directly at the school s main gate, is among the first of its kind in Cebu City and is expected to provide safer crossing for pupils and other pedestrians amid heavy traffic in the area.
This is a big help for the safety of our students and other pedestrians, and it gives peace of mind to all parents whose children study here, said Mayor Nestor Archival during the inauguration.
Archival also acknowledged the collaborative effort behind the project.
We appreciate the initiative of the school in requesting this project, and the Cebu City Transportation Office for their efforts in making this possible, he added.
The ceremony was attended by school principal Dr. Floriephine S. Navarro, faculty members, barangay officials, and representatives from the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), led by Raquel Arce, along with Assistant Department Head Atty. Kent Francesco Jongoy.
The mayor likewise thanked the Guadalupe Elementary School Alumni Association, headed by President Lorna Ubod, for helping conceptualize and push the project to completion.
City officials said the installation addresses long-standing concerns over pedestrian safety outside the school, where heavy traffic has posed risks to children and parents.
The project forms part of Cebu City s broader effort to modernize traffic management systems. Authorities hope the installation will serve as a pilot model for similar safety measures in other schools and high-risk pedestrian areas across the city.
For the Guadalupe community, the new traffic light serves as a visible assurance that student safety remains a priority, highlighting how collaboration among the local government, school officials, and alumni can lead to concrete improvements in public safety.
