CHAMP checks released to beneficiaries

CEBU, Philippines — After all the waiting, Cebu City residents who availed themselves of medical assistance under the City Hospitalization Assistance and Medicines Program (CHAMP) finally began receiving reimbursement checks.

The first batch covers approved claims dating back to January 2024, a backlog inherited from the previous administration. However, the total worth of the checks was not disclosed.

The release marks a significant turning point for families that have long been anticipating financial relief from mounting medical expenses.

City officials assured that additional batches will follow in the coming weeks as check-writing and processing continue for all remaining eligible claims.

Mayor Nestor Archival’s administration pledged that every qualified beneficiary will receive their reimbursement at the soonest possible time, underscoring its commitment to clear pending obligations and ease the medical and financial burdens of Cebuano households.

The long-awaited reimbursements come alongside CHAMP’s continuing daily service to walk-in clients.

Updates posted last week show the program’s active disbursement of guaranteed letters for hospital bills and laboratory needs.

On December 12, CHAMP served 66 clients with a total of ?565,071.41 released in guarantee letters.

The day before, 74 clients were assisted with ?650,122.92 disbursed, while December 10 saw 84 clients served with ?905,063.15 released.

Earlier, on December 9, CHAMP recorded its largest service for the week, assisting 105 clients with a total of ?1,194,369.00 in guarantee letters.

These figures reflect the program’s sustained role in providing immediate medical support even as the reimbursement process for past claims finally moves forward. — (FREEMAN)
