LTO to go after unauthorized insurance sellers

CEBU, Philippines — Land Transportation Office Chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, vowed to go after unauthorized insurance sellers.
This, after representatives of insurance companies raised concerned on unauthorized sellers of the Compulsory Third Party Liability, or CTPL during its second round of the public consultation with transport groups and other stakeholders.
In attendance during the meeting included representatives from MAJETSCO/Busina, Sterling Insurance Company, BMIS, Mega Manila Consortium, PAGUNOVA Transport, the National Public Transport, NACTODA, ALTODAP, Pro-movers Transport Alliance, Pasang Masda, Partner 7 Transport Operators, Novadeci Transport Cooperative, and Pasang Masda.
“Maganda ang kinalabasan ng pagpupulong at ito naman ang gusto natin, especially our new DOTr (Department of Transportation) Secretary (Vince) Dizon—to reach out to the people so that we could craft and implement measures that are convenient to all our clients,” Mendoza said.
Attendees also pointed out the need to increase the benefits under the insurance.
Aside from that, they also wanted an assurance where the payment of claims to be faster and comfortable compared to the current system.
The two other changes that are now being ironed out is the immediate correction on encoding errors on insurance and remove the participation fee in the entire process of claiming the payment.
“We would conduct finishing touches on this matter, particularly on the legality issues in coordination with the Insurance Commission before we will present this to our DOTr Secretary and implement all these changes,” he added.
Mendoza also committed to the insurance companies to personally oversee the conduct of operations against those selling CTPL without the authorization of the Insurance Commission.
The LTO is also set to deploy mystery customers to identify and subject those illegally selling CTPL to LTO and police operations.
“With your help and continuous coordination, I am sure that we will have a long way to go to implement the necessary reforms to improve the land transportation experience of our kababayan,” Mendoza said. — JG (FREEMAN)
