Motorcycle rider dies in road collision

CEBU, Philippines — A habal-habal driver died on the spot after his motorcycle collided with a delivery van on the national highway in Barangay Yati, Liloan, Cebu Tuesday noon, April 23, 2024.

Authorities identified the fatality as Reynaldo Cabiles, 47, a resident of District 4, Tandang Sora, Barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion.

Initial police investigation shows Cabiles was heading north while the delivery van driven by Marlon Bayarcal, 26, a resident of Sitio Tawason, Barangay Talamban, Cebu City, was coming from the opposite direction.

According to the Liloan Police Station, the motorcycle rider tried to overtake a private vehicle when he collided with the van. The impact had Cabiles thrown off his motorcycle resulting in severe injuries that cost his life.

Bayarcal was immediately placed under police custody while criminal complaints for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property are being prepared for filing against him if there would be no amicable settlement with the family of the victim.— (FREEMAN)
