Iris Hazel Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Although observing a drop in the number of cases compared to last year, cases of the theft, physical injuries, and rape were among the most prevalent crimes committed in Cebu Province for 2023.

Police Captain Wendell Abellana, Information Officer of Cebu Police Provincial Office (CCPO) said that in 2024, they will be adopting the pronouncement of Cebu Provincial Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to declare a total war against illegal drugs in the Province.

He added that they will also highlight the programs of CPPO Provincial Director, Police Colonel Percival Sorilla that directs all police officers in the province to be proactive.

Abellana also said that they have been intensifying their operations against illegal drugs, illegal gambling, loose firearms and wanted persons.

These programs have lowered the commission of crimes,  added Abellana.

For 2023, CPPO observed a decline of theft cases by 2.8 percent that corresponds to 23 crime incidents as compared to the year 2022. For rape cases, the numbers have dropped to 12.77 percent or 65 recorded incidents.

But all these incidents, puro ni sya ni us-os because of the measures nga atong gi-apply on ground so that s why naa y pag us-os sa atong crime,  said Abellana.

In line with this, Abellana said they will be intensifying their efforts to sustain the decrease of crimes in 2024 by also actively engaging with the community.

With the help of the community mas mu-lessen pa gyud na ang nga insidente pa in the coming years,  said Abellana.   (CEBU NEWS)
