Danao sets groundbreaking  of waste-to-energy plant

Kristin De Dios - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  As Danao City aims to become a model of sustainable development, it is set to hold a groundbreaking ceremony of the first-ever waste-to-energy plant in the country today in Barangay Dunggoan.

In collaboration with the Integrated Green Technology (IGT) Visayas Inc., the city will soon realize the highly anticipated Ultramodern Solid Waste Management and Disposal Plant.

This project is one of the city's big ticket projects putting Danao City as a pioneer in innovative waste management solutions.

The Danao City government believes that this exemplifies its commitment in prioritizing the environment.

This project is also an initiative to shape the future of waste management and renewable energy in the country.

Last week, the city held its first-ever investment forum in which it introduced the four strategic pillars of its renewed direction.

These include economic resiliency; empowered citizens; eco-friendly/livability; and effective and efficient governance.

The waste-to-energy plant is one of the projects to realize the city’s eco-friendly/livability pillar.

“The Philippine government now is having its transition when it comes to landfill. So they're converting landfill now into waste-to-energy or any sort of recycling that would benefit not just the community but also in terms of power, electricity,” said Chief Operating Officer of IGT, Michael Jimenez, in the forum. — CNU Intern/GMR
